As a loving school family and valuing each unique individual made in the image of God, our vision is to grow compassionate and confident learners, who follow their pathways with perseverance and respect for others and the natural environment, and are inspired to achieve their full potential.

22/5/20 Advice to Parents Regarding Transport to School
Message from East Riding of Yorkshire Council - 20/3/2020
Coronavirus and schools closure information for parents / carers
Following the Government’s announcement, East Riding of Yorkshire Council would like to reiterate that schools, colleges and childcare providers will be closed for the vast majority of children until further notice.
Many parents working in critical sectors may be able to ensure their child is kept at home. Every child who can be safely cared for at home, should be.
The Department for Education is asking schools, colleges, nurseries, childminders and other registered childcare settings to offer provision, where they can, for children of critical workers and vulnerable children. You may have already been contacted by your child’s school. If this is not the case please look at their website.
This is an offer to parents and carers who are critical workers or have vulnerable children. There is no requirement for parents and carers to send children to school if you do not need or wish to do so.

Welcome to Sutton Upon Derwent CE Primary School’s website which we hope will provide you with a window into our school.
We are a Church of England Primary School set in the attractive village of Sutton Upon Derwent which is 8 miles from York and easily accessible from the A64/B1228 and the A1079. The school has entered into a collaboration with nearby Bugthorpe CE Primary School, sharing a Headteacher and working closely with its sister school to the mutual benefit of all pupils. The school’s vision is underpinned by our Christian Values, and we are proud of our strong links with the village church of St Michael and All The Angels.
Sutton Upon Derwent School is small enough to foster a close-knit, family atmosphere, but large enough to offer an exciting range of opportunities to its pupils. The school has well-resourced grounds that offer both play-opportunities and the scope for an interesting, interactive and varied curriculum. Our outdoor spaces, including a greenhouse, chicken run, forest school and gardening poly-tunnel are second-to-none.
We are a friendly, welcoming and inclusive community where every child receives the best possible education in a safe and caring environment. Pupils with additional needs are supported by programmes of work which are individually designed to enable them to make maximum progress.
Sutton Upon Derwent School offers a broad, exciting and challenging curriculum that provides the building blocks for our pupils’ physical, intellectual, emotional development, and well-being: as well as instilling in them a thirst for lifelong learning.
Our pupils are offered a wide range of high-quality sports by our Sports Coach. They take part in local matches and tournaments and enjoy considerable success in them.
We highly value our parents and carers and see them as equal partners in their child’s education.
We hope that we have stimulated your curiosity to see our school and welcome visits from prospective parents/carers.
